Academy for Creative Artists
Academy for Creative Artists (A.C.A.) Steven Remeika, Assistant Principal William Laboska, Program Coordinator Our Mission... Our goal is to provide an enriched artistry program through a sequence of highly varied writing and performance courses both in-person and remotely. Through writing, workshopping, performances, and literary experiences, our students will be prepared for the rigors of professional work in both the writing and dramatic arts arenas as well as in college/academia, and beyond. Why choose A.C.A.? The Academy for Creative Artists (A.C.A.) program affords students with a wealth of opportunities to showcase their work in our award-winning literary magazines (Eureka, Pendemonium) and the school newspaper (The Observer). In addition, our students frequently present their talents in our scene festivals, mainstage play productions, poetry slams, and in school-wide, district, and national writing, acting, and oratory contests. We give special attention and encouragement to publication and contest winning. Past A.C.A. students have won such prestigious prizes and admission scholarships as those awarded by NYU--Tisch School of the Arts, Mason Gross School of the Arts--Rutgers University, North Carolina School of the Arts, Barnard College, AMDA, Howard University, the English Speaking Union and the National Arts Club. We are proud to note that learning in A.C.A. goes beyond the traditional classroom. A large emphasis is placed on cultural excursions such as weekend wilderness retreats, Broadway theater trips, and college campus visits. Elective Courses...
